
The grapes of the Barbera Il Ribaldo come from more than 30-years old vineyards that sits on clay soil facing south-west. Every step of the winemaking process is done with the utmost care, in order to produce a wine of absolute pleasantness in which structure and acidity are perfectly balanced.
Type: partially oaked still red wine.
Grape: Barbera (100%).
Alcohol: 14% vol.
Vinification: manual harvesting is done once the grapes are slightly over-ripe. The grapes are then destemmed and crushed, and the must is left to soak with the skins in stainless-steel vats for 15-20 days at a temperature of about 22-28 °C. Part of the wine (65%) is aged in stainless-steel vats and part (35%) is put in French oak tonneaux. 20% of this last percentage is composed by wine from the current vintage (10-month ageing), while the remaining 15% comes from the previous vintage (16-month ageing).
Tasting notes
Sight: brilliant ruby red colour.
Nose: marked by prevailing aromas of blackberry and strawberry with toasted and spicy notes in the background. Hints of chestnut honey and tobacco emerge in the long finish.
Palate: true to the nose, the palate offers a good body and a nice sapidity.
Service temperature: 16-18 °C.
Suggested pairings: great with red meat-based dishes, game and aged cheese.
